How to Read Your Own Palm Step by Step

You can start reading your own palm with a few simple steps. Sit in good natural light and take your time.

Step 1: Look at the hand shape

Note whether your palm is square or long, and whether your fingers are long or short. This tells you your hand type (earth, air, fire or water).

Step 2: Check the thumb and fingers

A strong, long thumb shows willpower. Compare finger lengths: a long index finger shows ambition, a long ring finger shows creativity.

Step 3: Find the major lines

  • Heart line: the top horizontal line, for emotions and love.
  • Head line: the middle horizontal line, for thinking and decisions.
  • Life line: the curved line around the thumb, for energy and vitality.
  • Fate line: the vertical line up the middle, for career and direction.

Step 4: Look at the mounts

Press gently on the pads under each finger. Well-developed, firm mounts show strong qualities of their planets.

Step 5: Notice signs

Look for stars, crosses, triangles, squares and islands on lines and mounts.

Step 6: Combine

Read features together and compare both hands. Keep notes, and enjoy learning more about yourself.
