An Island
An island is never a lucky sign. Wherever an island appears, it weakens the power of the Mount or Line it sits on. If an island appears on the Life Line, it shows that you may suffer illness or weak health at that point in your life (1). If it appears on the Head Line, it shows a risk of brain disease or brain trouble (2). If an island appears on the Heart Line, especially near the Mount of the Sun, it may mean you are at risk of heart disease (3). If the island sits on the Fate Line, you may worry about your future and suffer heavy losses in worldly matters (4). If it sits on the Sun Line, you may lose your position because of a scandal (5). If it appears on the Health Line, you may suffer a serious illness (6). If it sits on the upper part of the line along with a small circle, you may have trouble with your throat, fingernails, or bronchial tubes. If your nails are long, you may have chest and lung trouble. If your nails are small with no visible moon shape, you may have heart and circulation problems. If your nails are unusually flat, you may be at risk of paralysis and nerve problems. If the lower part of the Health Line sits on the Mount of the Moon, it points to a strong risk of bladder and kidney trouble (7).
The Square
The Square (13) is known as the sign of protection. It shows that you can escape danger wherever it appears. If the Square sits on the Life Line, it protects you from death (13). If it sits on the Fate Line, it protects you from suffering a major loss. So the Square gives a different kind of protection depending on which line it appears on.
The Cross
The Cross has the opposite meaning of the Star. It has only one lucky position. If it sits on the Mount of Jupiter, it shows that you will be very fortunate in life. In every other position, this sign is unlucky. If the Cross sits on the Mount of Saturn, it warns of a violent death (12). If it sits on the Mount of the Sun, it points to unhappiness over money or reputation. If the Cross sits on the Mount of Mercury, it shows a dishonest character. If it sits on the Mount of Mars nearest Mercury, you may face strong opposition from others. If it sits on the Mount of Mars nearest Jupiter, it shows a risk of dying in a quarrel. If it sits on the Mount of the Moon, it shows dangerous, obsessive thoughts, and you may deceive yourself. If it sits low on this Mount, it warns of death by drowning. If the Cross sits on the Mount of Venus, it warns of some dangerous influence in your life. If it sits above the Head Line, it shows a risk of head injury or accident. If the Cross sits above the Heart Line, someone close to you may die suddenly.
The Star
The Star (11) is the only mark that always brings good fortune. If it sits on the Mount of Jupiter, it shows that you may gain power, position, and honour. If the Star sits on the Mount of the Sun, it shows that you may gain great glory, usually connected with public life. If it sits on the Mount of Mercury, it brings unusual success in trade and business (11). If it sits on the Mount of Mars nearest Jupiter, it shows great distinction — you may become well known through a military life and stay famous for the rest of your days. If it sits on the Mount of Mars nearest Mercury, it shows that you will win through the mental struggles of life. If it sits on the Mount of the Moon, it is a sign of great personal power coming from imagination and inventive thinking. If the Star sits in the middle of the Mount of Venus, it shows great success in love and romance. If the Star sits on the Mount of Saturn, it is unlucky — this is the only position where the Star brings bad luck. If you have this mark, you may feel controlled by fate and face some terrible events. Your life may end after one or more serious misfortunes.
The Great Triangle and the Quadrangle
The Health Line, the Life Line, and the Head Line together form the Great Triangle. This triangle relates to a person’s health. If your triangle is large, your health tends to stay good throughout your life, and in this case the Health Line usually sits further away from the Life Line. Your path through life is broader and less limited. If the upper angle, formed by the Life Line and the Head Line, is sharp, you tend to be timid, nervous, and sensitive.
The Quadrangle
The Quadrangle sits between the Heart Line and the Head Line. If it is an even shape, it is considered a well-formed Quadrangle, and it should not be narrow at either end. A well-formed Quadrangle shows balanced judgement, an even temper in all matters, and is one of the best signs to have. It reflects how a person treats other people. If it is too narrow, it shows narrow-mindedness and intolerance in matters of religion. If it is too wide, it shows a lack of decision-making ability and too much looseness in your opinions, which does not serve you well.
The Spot
A Spot marks a brief weakening of the line it sits on. If a Spot sits on the Head Line, you may face injury or shock (9). If a Spot sits on the Life Line, you may suffer a sudden illness. If a Spot sits on the Health Line, you may suffer a fever. On other lines, a Spot has less importance.
The Circle
If the Circle sits on the Mount of the Sun, it is a lucky sign for you (8). In any other position, the Circle is unlucky. If the Circle sits on the Mount of the Moon, it warns of death by drowning.
The Grille
A Grille (10) often appears on a Mount of the hand. It points to obstacles and troubles in whatever area that Mount represents, along with a lack of success in the talent or quality that Mount stands for.
