Which Hand to Read in Palmistry

One of the first questions in palmistry is which hand to read. The answer depends on whether you are right- or left-handed, and on what you want to know.

Dominant and non-dominant hand

  • Dominant hand (the hand you write with) shows your present life, your efforts and what you are making of your potential.
  • Non-dominant hand shows inborn traits, inherited tendencies and natural potential.

The Indian tradition

In traditional Indian palmistry, the right hand is read for men and the left hand for women. Many modern palmists prefer the dominant-hand method, but some still follow the traditional rule, especially for marriage and family questions.

Why read both

Comparing both hands shows how a person has changed. If the dominant hand has stronger lines than the other, the person has developed their abilities through effort. If it is weaker, they may not be using their full potential.

Practical tip

Read both hands, give more weight to the dominant one for present and future matters, and use the other hand to understand the person's roots and nature.
