Palmistry Basics for Beginners

Palmistry is the art of studying the hand — its shape, lines, mounts and signs — to understand a person's nature, talents and life tendencies. In India it is called Hast Samudrika Shastra.

What a palmist looks at

  • Hand shape: shows basic temperament (earth, air, fire or water types).
  • Fingers and thumb: show willpower, logic and how a person expresses themselves.
  • Mounts: the raised pads under the fingers, each linked with a planet.
  • Lines: the major lines (heart, head, life and fate) and many minor lines.
  • Signs: stars, crosses, triangles, squares and islands that add detail.

Start simple

Begin with the overall hand shape and the four major lines. Notice whether lines are deep or faint, long or short, straight or curved. Clear, deep lines show strong, steady energy, while faint or broken lines show changes or weaker focus in that area.

Read with balance

No single line decides anything. A good palmist combines all features and reads both hands. Palmistry shows tendencies, not a fixed fate, and your actions shape how those tendencies unfold. Explore each topic in our palmistry guide.
