Dadra and Nagar Haveli is a union territory in western India. It comprises two entities, Nagar Haveli and Dadra. This region is famous for rich biodiversity as almost forty-three percent of the land is occupied by forests. There are various traditional and cultural festivals celebrated in this region. The most famous of which is the Barash Festival. This festival is celebrated with extreme joy and excitement by the tribes Kokna and Varli of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. These tribes do not consume any food cooked with homegrown beans until this festival is celebrated. It is celebrated in the month of September every year.
The Masimagam festival is also celebrated with great enthusiasm in this union territory. It is celebrated on the full moon day of “Masi” month which falls in February-March. At this festival, the holy deities are bathed according to the religious procedures. In addition to this many more festivals like Villanur Temple Car Festival, Holi, Raksha Bandhan, and Akhatrji Festivals are celebrated in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The cultural and indigenous tribes of this region celebrate all these festivals with tradition and devotion. Many tourists from all over the world come to this place to witness these beautiful festivals.
