We Indians believe in "Atithi Devo Bhava" — the guest is equivalent to God. So it must be said that guests are the most respected people for their hosts. We regard guests as family members and welcome them with warmth. We take full responsibility for hosting our guests properly, and for this we need to arrange and prepare everything separately for them. A guest room belongs to the guest and is no different from the other rooms of the house, though it still requires Vastu rules to be followed, which helps the guest enjoy their stay. We plan for a guest room in the house — the wealthy can build a guest house, but ordinary people can usually only build a guest room.
The guest room must not be constructed on the South-Western side of the house, as that is the place for the head of the family.
The most suitable place for your guest is the North-West corner, making it the best location for a guest room. People are therefore advised to make a proper, separate room for guests.
If you want to build this room towards the South, you should consult a Vastu advisor, as a suggestion from an experienced advisor is always welcome. You may also plan the room for your guest towards the South-East direction. If your guest is not a married couple, you can also plan for the North-Eastern side.
We must provide a bathroom in the guest room, as it is not ideal for a guest to have to step outside when in need. If that happens, it may affect their privacy, though this is not itself a matter of Vastu Shastra.
You can set up a bathroom on the South-West (Nairuthi) side if your guest room is situated towards the North-Western side, but you should consult a Vastu advisor beforehand. If your guest room is located towards the North-West (Vayavya), you should provide a window towards the North-Eastern corner, on the Northern side or Western side.
If your guest room is located in the South-East (Agneya), you must provide a window towards the South-Eastern direction or South. A window towards the South-Western direction does not have any adverse effect.
According to Vastu Shastra, the door of the guest room must face the correct direction. This means a North-Eastern room should have its door facing East, a North-Eastern door facing North, a South-Eastern door facing South, and a North-Western door facing West. You should use suitable colours for the guest room, such as lemon yellow, sky blue, green, or orange. Electrical equipment should be located towards the South-Eastern side of the guest room.
The guest room should be arranged so that guests do not end up dominating the household. If the guest room is located in the wrong direction, the guest may overstay and even displace the owner of the house. Proper Vastu for the guest room makes it easier for both host and guest to cooperate with each other, creating an environment that helps the guest adjust with the family members.
