Choosing of colour for the home (interior and exterior) is a difficult and important job to do. Vaastu provides some guideline to have appropriate colours as per the direction.

Color Wheel : Colour wheel is the wheel containing all the colours. Though there are three basic colours (Red, Blue and Yellow), there are many other colours may be formed by mixing them in proper proportion. Every colour has some importance and significance in our life. Every colour has a complement. For example Blue is the complement colour of Orange.

Vaastu suggests the colours for each direction as following:

As shown in the colour map image, every direction has a colour. If a room is dark, then light colour should be used. So it will lighten the room. White colour is good for any room.

Colours in the diagram indicate the Vaastu recommends colour in that direction.
For example if there is a room in the south, that should be coloured as red. Similarly if there is a room in the north-east corner, it should be painted with yellow colour.


Here are some important room and suggested colors.

Room Suggested color
Living Room Yellow, blue, green and white are best colors for living room as these colors are good for the guests.
Bedroom Light blue, light green and white are the best color for the bedroom. For children’s bedroom Green or Yellow or combination of both are best as because it can helps concentrating in study of children.
Dining Room The Gree, pink and blue are best for dining room. Any black or mixture of black with any other color in this room is not good.
Kitchen White or Yellow is the best color for Kitchen. Also any kind of Red color can be used in Kitchen
Puja Ghar Puja Ghar should be painted with Yellow or White.

Red and Pink are suitable colours of the Sun according to the Jyotish Shastra. There coloure expresses courage and strength. These are the most emotional, dramatic and enegetic colour. It is considered as inducing a seductive surrounding of obsession and wish. Red colour must not be used in the bedrooms due to its energizing features.

Orange is suitable colour of the Jupiter according to the Jyotish Shastra. It stirs spirituality because of its superiority and an inhuman aspect. It leads joyful and social assembling. The orange stimulate well enthusiasm in the dining room. Hence we must paint our dining room in orange colour.

Green is the suitable colour of the Mercury according to the Jyotish Shastra. Green represents nature. It helps getting a harmonious surrounding which produce quiet and inner peace in the house. It may be used as the calming place for the persons who are distressed or require of refreshment. Nowadays maximum hospitals use the green colour of its rapidly remedial aspects. It may also be useful in case of study room owing to its enhancing power.

The yellow colour is suitable of the Jupiter and the Moon according to the Jyotish Shastra. Yellow colour cares for mental awareness and clarity of the mind. It expresses sunlight. If any room gets straight sunlight then we must not use this colour on the walls.

Blue denotes the Saturn and the Venus as per vedic astrology. It expresses the sky. It provides a feel of room and growth that calm down body and the mind. It is ideal for the bedrooms or the meditation room owing to its calming and pious energy.

Purple is the suitable colour of the Saturn according to the Jyotish Shastra. It leads to reflect auspicious energy. Purple motivates in belief, trust and perception. Purple is defensive and pleasuring. We must not allow for painting the entire room in purple as it might be overpowering. The white colour is suitable of the Moon and the Venus according to the Jyotish Shastra. White ceiling is preferable to every people as it scatters the light and brightens the room.

Colours inspire our emotions and behaviour and it also have a great impact on our life. All the suggested colours are considered as auspicious for the enhancement of ‘Vastu’ of our home.
