The best directions
- North-east: considered the most auspicious, bringing health, wisdom and growth.
- North: invites wealth and career opportunities, as north is ruled by Kubera.
- East: brings health, recognition and the blessings of the Sun.
West and south entrances can also be good, but only when the door falls in an auspicious section (pada) of that side.
Directions to be careful with
- A door in the extreme south-west is traditionally linked with instability and losses.
- A door in the extreme south-east can bring disputes and fire-related worries.
- A door in the north-west corner may bring restlessness, though it suits some businesses.
Good main door habits
- The main door should be the largest door in the house and open inwards, clockwise.
- Keep it clean, well lit and free of clutter, shoes and dustbins.
- Avoid a toilet, staircase or another door directly facing the main door.
- A nameplate, toran and auspicious symbols such as swastik or Om welcome positive energy.
If your door is in a difficult spot
Remedies include a brass or copper threshold, a Vaastu pyramid, a pair of auspicious symbols on either side, bright lighting and keeping the area spotless. A consultant may also suggest using a different, better-placed door more often.
