Best directions for your head
- South: the best direction for deep, restful sleep, health and long life.
- East: good for students and anyone seeking knowledge and memory.
- West: acceptable; associated with ambition and success.
- North: avoid. Sleeping with the head to the north is traditionally linked with disturbed sleep and poor health.
Why north is avoided
The earth behaves like a magnet with its north pole in the north. Traditional belief holds that our head acts like a north pole too, and sleeping with the head to the north creates repulsion, disturbing blood circulation and sleep.
Bed placement rules
- Keep the headboard against a solid wall, not a window.
- Avoid placing the bed in line with the door, with your feet facing the door.
- Do not sleep under an overhead beam.
- Avoid storage of old or broken items under the bed.
- Wooden beds are preferred over metal beds.
For better sleep
Keep the bedroom dark, quiet and free of electronic devices. A small bowl of sea salt under the bed, changed weekly, is a traditional remedy for restlessness.
