Friday

While Eid-e-Milad is celebrated with great vigour in Kashmir, the Friday following Eid-e-Milad receives the same enthusiasm. On this day, thousands of Islam followers go to Hazratbal Shrine to have a glimpse of the Holy relic. The Milad celebrations start on first Rabi-ul-Awal according to the Islamic calenders and end on the Friday following Eid-e-Milad. This day is commonly known as Milad un Nabi and is observed as a public holiday in many countries with a large Muslim population as it commemorates the anniversary of the birth of the founder of Islam and the proclaimer of the Quran, Prophet Muhammad. Salaat-ul-Jumuah or the Friday prayer is a religious act which takes the place of the daily afternoon prayer each Friday. It is one of the most exalted Islamic rituals and one of its confirmed non-obligatory acts. In Jammu and Kashmir, the first Friday prayers after Eid e-Milad are particularly important.

On this day in Hazratbal Shrine, close to a lakh, people gather every year to have a glimpse of the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad. It is a devotional and festive environment in all the shrines and mosques in Kashmir and the countries with the majority of the Muslim population. It is one of the most widely-celebrated Muslim festivals and holds great significance and importance. Milad-Un-Nabi is the birth anniversary of the founder of Islam, hence the Friday prayers following this day hold great power and significance. It is said that anybody who wishes and prays for anything on this day is granted that wish in no time.
