Uttarakhand is a state in the northern part of India. It is also known as the land of the gods due to the various shrines and temples located in its hilly regions. Kumbh Mela is the biggest and the most popular festival in Uttarakhand. It is the largest congregation of pilgrims which involves taking dips in the river of Ganga to rid oneself or ones sins during life. Devotees, saints, sadhus, or just onlookers, irrespective of their caste, creed, or gender come from across the nation and even from around the world to bathe in the holy waters of Ganga, hoping to get rid of the cycle of birth and death and their sins.
Basant Panchami is also celebrated widely in this state. At this festival, people dress up in yellow clothing and welcome the spring season. Holi is also celebrated with extreme enthusiasm and joy in this state. Uttarakhand also has a number of seasonal festivals such as Harela marking the start of the rainy season, Bhitauli marking the start of the summers including many others. Locals celebrate all these festival with traditional practices and worships to their gods and dieties.
