The union territory of Chandigarh is the capital of two states in India, namely Punjab and Haryana. It is one of the best well-planned cities in India that is known internationally for its architecture and design. It was designed by the swiss-french architect Le Corbusier. This small region celebrates many festivals and fairs all year round. Baisakhi is the most widely-celebrated festival in Chandigarh. It marks the beginning of the harvest season in North India. This auspicious and joyful festival also marks the Sikh new year. It also celebrates the formation of Khalsa panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. People dress up in traditional dresses on this day and celebrate with much, dance and food.
In addition to this Chandigarh also celebrates more modern festivals like the Chandigarh Mango Festival where people who grow and trade mangoes showcase the different varieties and forms of our national fruit. The Chandigarh Carnival is held every year in November to showcase local talent and artists. It is a small and really vibrant city with exemplary architecture. It also holds a flower festival known as Chrysanthemums show. Hola Mohalla is a celebration of the Hindu festival of Holi where the Sikh militant showcase their martial arts.
