Terrace and Roof Vaastu

The roof and terrace protect the home and influence how energy flows from above. Vaastu offers useful guidance on their slope, use and structures.

Roof slope

The roof should slope towards the north or east so that rainwater flows in those directions. The south-west should be the highest part of the roof.

Overhead structures

  • Overhead water tank in the south-west or west.
  • Solar panels in the south or south-east, where they also catch the most sunlight in India.
  • Mumty (staircase room) in the south-west.
  • Avoid heavy structures in the north-east of the roof.

Using the terrace

  • A terrace garden is best in the north and east.
  • Keep the terrace clean and free of junk.
  • Seating and a pergola can go in the south-west.

Maintenance

Fix leaks, cracks and seepage quickly. Water seeping from the roof is linked in Vaastu with draining finances and health problems.
