The ideal slope
The land should slope down from the south-west towards the north-east. The south-west should be the highest and the north-east the lowest point. Rainwater then flows towards the north-east, which Vaastu links with prosperity.
Slopes and their traditional effects
- Towards north or east: favourable, linked with wealth and health.
- Towards south: linked with health issues and financial strain.
- Towards west: linked with loss of wealth.
- Towards south-west: considered the most unfavourable.
Correcting the slope
- Fill and level the land before building, raising the south and west.
- Build floors and courtyards with a slight slope towards the north or east.
- Plan drainage so that water exits from the north or east.
Inside the house
Floors, balconies and terraces should also slope gently towards the north or east.
