Compound Wall and Gate Vaastu

The compound wall marks the boundary of the property and protects it. Its height, thickness and the gate's position affect security and energy.

Height and thickness

The south and west walls should be higher and thicker than the north and east walls. This keeps the south-west heavy and the north-east open.

The gate

  • Place the main gate in an auspicious pada, ideally in the north, east or north-east.
  • The gate should be larger than the main door of the house.
  • A two-panel gate opening inwards is preferred.
  • Keep the gate in good condition, free of rust and noise.

Other tips

  • Do not let the compound wall touch the house; leave open space all around.
  • Avoid broken or cracked boundary walls.
  • Paint the wall in light colours.
  • Avoid a second gate exactly opposite the main gate.
