Tulsi Plant Placement Vaastu

Tulsi (holy basil) is the most sacred plant in Indian homes. It purifies the air, has medicinal value and is worshipped as a form of Goddess Lakshmi.

Best direction

Place tulsi in the north, north-east or east. The north-east, ruled by Jupiter and Lord Shiva, is considered most auspicious. Avoid the south, where it is believed to lose its positive power.

How to keep tulsi

  • Plant it in a raised pot or a traditional tulsi vrindavan, not directly on the floor.
  • Keep an odd number of tulsi plants, such as 1, 3 or 5.
  • Ensure it gets morning sunlight.
  • Keep the area around it clean and free from shoes and dustbins.

Daily practice

Many families offer water to tulsi in the morning and light a diya near it in the evening. This simple ritual is believed to bring peace and prosperity.

Do's and don'ts

  • Do not pluck tulsi leaves on Sundays, Ekadashi or after sunset, according to tradition.
  • Do not keep thorny plants next to tulsi.
  • Replace a dried tulsi plant respectfully; immerse it in water or bury it in soil.
