Plants to avoid indoors
- Cactus and thorny plants: linked with conflict and sharp, harsh energy. Keep them outside, if at all.
- Bonsai: represents stunted growth and is traditionally avoided inside.
- Plants with milky sap (such as some euphorbias): linked with health issues.
- Dried or dead plants and flowers: represent stagnation.
- Cotton and silk cotton plants: traditionally considered inauspicious indoors.
Trees too close to the house
- Avoid large trees very close to the house in the north-east, as they block morning light.
- Peepal and banyan trees are sacred but too large for home compounds; their roots can damage foundations.
- Avoid trees whose shadow falls on the house in the morning.
Exception: rose
Although roses have thorns, they are generally accepted in gardens, especially in the south-west, because of their beauty and fragrance.
What to do
If you have an unsuitable plant, move it outdoors or give it away to someone with a garden. Replace it with a Vaastu-friendly plant such as tulsi or money plant.
