Best direction
The west, north-west and east are good directions for children's rooms. The west supports learning and achievement, while the north-west suits older children preparing to move out for study or work. Avoid giving children the south-west master bedroom, as it can make them dominant at home.
Bed and study table
- Bed in the south or west part of the room, head to the south or east.
- Study table in the north or east, so the child faces north or east while studying.
- Bookshelves on the south or west wall.
Colours
Light green, sky blue, cream and soft yellow support concentration and calm. Avoid too much red, which can cause restlessness, and very dark shades.
Décor
- Inspiring pictures, such as a rising sun or a goddess Saraswati image, near the study area.
- Avoid images of violence or sadness.
- Keep electronic games and TV out of the bedroom where possible.
- Keep the room tidy, with toys stored in closed boxes.
For small babies
Place a baby's cot in the south-west or west of the parents' room, away from windows and with the baby's head towards the east.
