Material
Solid wood is the most recommended material for the main door, as it is strong and natural. Teak, sheesham and other good hardwoods are traditional choices. Avoid doors made only of glass or flimsy materials.
Colours by direction
- North: green or light blue
- East: wood tones, light brown or white
- South: red, coral or deep brown
- West: white, silver or grey
- North-east: cream or light yellow
Avoid black main doors, as black is linked with heavy, stagnant energy.
Design tips
- A two-shutter door is considered more auspicious than a single shutter.
- The door should not creak; oil the hinges regularly.
- A raised threshold (dehleez) of wood or marble stops negative energy from entering.
- Keep a beautiful nameplate in metal or wood.
- Decorate with a toran of mango leaves or marigold flowers on festivals.
Lighting and the entrance
A bright light near the main door, kept on in the evening, welcomes good energy and guests. Replace broken bulbs immediately.
