Shape
Square and rectangular plots are the best. Avoid triangular, circular and very irregular plots. A rectangle where the length is not more than twice the width is ideal.
Direction and roads
- Plots with roads on the north or east are considered most favourable.
- Plots with roads on two sides (north and east) are excellent.
- Avoid plots where a road ends directly at the plot (T-junction) unless remedies are applied.
Slope
The land should slope gently down towards the north or east. The south-west should be the highest point.
Surroundings
- Avoid plots next to cremation grounds, hospitals, large electrical towers or polluted drains.
- Avoid plots with a large tree or tall building blocking the north-east.
- A temple shadow falling on the plot is traditionally avoided.
Soil
Fertile, firm soil with a pleasant smell is preferred. Rocky, marshy or filled land with debris needs careful assessment.
