Best direction for the dining area
The west is the best direction for the dining room. The east and north are also good. Ideally, the dining area should be close to the kitchen.
Dining table shape and position
- Square or rectangular tables are best; avoid round, oval or irregular shapes.
- Do not place the dining table under a beam.
- Avoid placing it directly in line with the main door.
- Use an even number of chairs.
Seating
- The head of the family should sit facing east.
- Others can face east, north or west.
- Avoid facing south while eating.
Décor
- Light, pleasant colours such as cream, peach, light green or yellow.
- A picture of fruits, flowers or harvest scenes.
- A bowl of fresh fruit on the table.
- No mirror reflecting the table except one that doubles the food, which some see as a sign of abundance.
Good habits
Eat together when possible, avoid TV and phones at meals, and keep the table clean after eating.
