Treat the flat as a home
For Vaastu, the flat's own floor plan is treated as the house. Find its centre and directions, and apply room rules as you would in an independent house.
Key checks when buying
- Entrance in a good direction and pada.
- Kitchen in the south-east or north-west.
- No toilet in the north-east or centre.
- Master bedroom available in the south-west.
- Regular, square or rectangular shape without big cuts.
- Good light and ventilation from the north and east.
The building also matters
- A building with open space in the north and east is better.
- The building's main entrance should ideally be in the north or east.
- Avoid flats directly facing a lift or staircase.
Simple remedies
Use colours, furniture placement, mirrors, plants and salt bowls to balance defects. Many flats can be made comfortable with simple changes.
