Film director Gautam Ghose was born on 24 th July, 1950 in Kolkata to Prof. Himangshu Kumar and Santana Ghosh. He studied from St. Johns Diocesan School and Cathedral Missionary Boys School and graduated from University of Calcutta. He started his career from making documentaries since 1973 and his debut film was New Earth. and was active in theatres. He also worked as Photo Journalist. He won Golden Peacock for Moner Manus, several National Film Awards for Padma Nadir Majhi, Antarjali Jatra etc. His film Beyond the Himalayas won Filmfare for best documentary. He married Neelanjana Ghosh and has two children.
