The late Acharya Sri Somnath Chakraborty was one of the greatest astrology gurus in India, and he laid the foundation of our work with his great knowledge and guidance. We remain grateful to our Guru and will always be thankful to him. He was interested in astrology since childhood, and after completing his graduation and his Acharya degree, he began his practice in West Bengal. After many years of practice and deep experience in astrology, he had the idea of opening an astrological school where he could train young talent to build their own futures and help others. With the help of friends who were themselves icons in astrology, he opened an astrological college named the "Soham Astrological Society", under which the "College of Jyotirvidya" operates, established on 21st February 1989. It started with only two branches in Kolkata, one in the south and one in the north. After the success of this venture, three more branches were opened, in Medinipur, Bolpur and Tripura. Today the institution is one of the most popular of its kind in West Bengal and other states. A large number of students train under his teachings every year, and many of his students are now well placed in society, earning well and supporting others in turn. Most of the great astrologers in India today are his students.
Acharya Sri Somnath Chakraborty regularly published articles in Bhagyaphal, Jyotish Siddhant and Aggam Jyotish, and he also wrote several books, available at his institution. He served as President of the "International Astro Federation of India Chapter". His talent in astrology was recognised by many organisations, and he received awards at conferences in India and abroad. He remains an icon in the field of astrology because of his service spanning more than 40 years. We were deeply saddened to lose him in 2021, and we will always remember his help, guidance and the path he showed us.
