How the muhurat is chosen

  • Nakshatra – each activity has its own set of auspicious nakshatras (for example Rohini, Uttara Phalguni and Revati for a housewarming, Pushya for buying gold).
  • Tithi – Rikta tithis (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi) and Amavasya are avoided; Shukla paksha is preferred.
  • Weekday, yoga and karana – favourable weekdays are preferred; inauspicious yogas (such as Vyatipata and Vaidhriti) and Bhadra (Vishti karana) are avoided.
  • Tara Bala and Chandra Bala – from your birth nakshatra and Moon sign, so the day is good for you, not just in general.
  • Time window – Abhijit muhurta and the good Choghadiyas (Amrit, Shubh, Labh), avoiding Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a muhurat?

A muhurat is an auspicious date and time chosen from the Panchang so that an important activity begins under favourable planetary influences.

Why does my birth star matter?

A day can be auspicious in general but unfavourable for you personally. Tara Bala (from your birth nakshatra) and Chandra Bala (from your Moon sign) make the muhurat personal.

Is this enough for a wedding?

For weddings and major ceremonies, families usually also confirm the exact lagna with an astrologer. This finder gives you the best candidate dates to start with.
