Festivals of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of 572 islands located at the junction of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Out of these scenic islands, almost 535 are habited by Indians. Many festivals are celebrated on Andaman Nicobar and the most glorious of all is Kaali Puja. It is a festival dedicated to the Goddess Kali. It is celebrated on the night of the new moon of Kartik month according to the Hindu calendar. According to the legends, the supreme god Mahakali took 10 forms to kill the evils on the earth. Each of these 10 forms has an incarnation day and the incarceration of the last goddess, Kamalatmika falls on the new moon of Kartik month. This day is celebrated as Kali Puja in Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with many other states of India. There are other major festivals that are celebrated here with joy and happiness. Auspicious occasions like Diwali, Ganesh Pooja, Durga Puja and Shiv Rathri are among the most widely celebrated festivals in these islands. Moreover, they are famous for their beaches and coral reefs. It is a really diverse union territory of India with countless attractions and festivals happening all year round.
