Smita Patil was born on 17 October 1955. She was an eminent actress in Indian film, theatre, and television. She acted mainly in Hindi, Marathi, and Malayalam industry. She is notable for acting in parallel and political cinema. She began her career as a newsreader and photographer. She acted in films like Bazaar, Bhumika, UmbarthaShe was also successful in the commercial genre Namak Halaal, Dil-E-Nadan, Angaarey, Anokha Rishta, Awam, Nazrana, Mirch Masala(1987). Her films often portrayed strong woman character with their stern feminist and empowering stature. She won Padma Shri, two National Film Award, and one Filmfare Award. She died due to childbirth complications on 13 December 1986.
