He composed music of thirteen languages including Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannad, Oriya, Gujarati, Assamese and many more. He mainly used and himself proficiently played musical instruments like esraj, flute, piano. He also wrote some famous poems. Among the countless films some of his famous are Poribartan, Pasher Bari, Do Bigha Zamin, Naukari, Jagte Raho, Musafir, Bari Theke Paliye, Madhumati, Parakh, Usne Kaha Tha, Kabuliwala, Ezhu Rathrikal, Abhayam, Aparajeyo, Anand, Samshaya Phala, Mera Damad and many more.
